Purpose

THINK BEFORE YOU SHAKE

We have all been there. We’ve spent hours getting ready. The outfit with matching shoes. The hair/line-up is done. You’re rolling deep with your girls/boys and the night is young. It’s a crowded club and everybody is there.

After a long week of classes it is your time to just relax. The DJ is spinning hit after hit and then he throws on that track that everybody has to move to and sing along with.
The single above is one that spent countless weeks on the charts, but have we really gone past the beat and listened to what is being said?

Important lines

“I’m looking for a dime that’s top of the line, cute face slim waste with a big behind.”

Yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but do Mike Jones and the infamous Ying Yang Twins really have the nerve to request “dimes” when the three of them look like pennies?

In so many facets of Hip-Hop women are only looked at for their physical standards of beauty. Men, on the other hand, can weigh an immense amount of pounds and lok like whatever.

Throughout the entire song “Badd Bitch” is repeated 17 times. What exactly id a “Badd Bitch”? The word bitch is becoming more accepted in Hip-Hop and urban culture. Some may look at it as a term of endearment or empowerment.

“I’m looking’ for a freak when I’m done block bleedin.’

The mention of some type of illegal activity seems to be in every Hip-Hop song. Hustlers, drugs and money are glorified so much many think it’s normal.

“Let a playa like me get in that vagina.” The days of imagination and creativity are gone. Women who dance to this in the club can’t get mad if this becomes the popular next pick-up line.

“Bitch move, like you got something’ to prove, keep runnin’ you dick sucka who you gonna lose? I don’t wanna hear ‘bout your motherfuckin’ blues, I’d rather see your ass clap in them shoes.” This sentence really needs no explanation.

Next time you find yourself nodding your head along to a tight beat and quick lyrics take a second to hear the words you seem to be enjoying. I myself must remember to do the same thing. Keep in mind all words have meaning. Insert someone close to you as the subject to the next degrading song. Does it still sound as good? THINK BEFORE YOU SHAKE.
