FRESHMAN PROFILE: Maura Redding by Erin Buerger
Maura's Hometown: LaGrange, IL,
a suburb of Chicago Relationship Status: Single Where are you living on
campus and why? She
was living in Bailey, but she was in transitional housing. She
just moved over to Armstrong and is staying there, for now at least. What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen so far? Gumby and Pokey smoking the hookah on Grand River during Welcome Week. Where you see yourself in four years? Back in Chicago either looking for a job or acquiring more schooling. Maura really wants to work at Shedd’s Aquarium in Chicago. Are you concerned about the freshman 15? She wasn’t before she got here because she had plenty of time to exercise. Now that she is here, it worries her a little because of the lack of time to work out. Roommate situation: She was in transitional housing in Bailey Hall with two girls who knew each other from high school. That made her a little nervous, but she really liked the girls and they got along great. She was sad when she had to leave, but she is enjoying her time in Armstrong Hall now with her new roommate. Thoughts on Welcome Week: Absolutely crazy. She said she was very surprised at how many people were actually walking (or stumbling) around Grand River at about 3 a.m. She said it was fun though. Biggest adjustment: Not being around her friends. What do you miss most about home? She really misses her friends and family, of course. Also, having her own bathroom was nice. Favorite way to procrastinate: Facebook, need i say more? Extracurriculars you do or plan to do in college: She is a member of the Zoology Student Society. Favorite East Lansing delivery place: Jimmy John's. Worst caf experience: Probably when Noelle, her old roommate, left her keys on her tray and they had to go back to find them. She also hates it when they run out of chocolate milk and ice cream cones. (Don’t we all!) |
