ELECTION ISSUES GOVERNOR'S RACE: No matter who wins, Kelly wants out of Michigan Opinion by Kelly Tebay
So the debates are over between our two candidates
for governor. Like many people, I watched all three of
them. Most of my friends are liberals and really like Jennifer Granholm.
They think she was
a good governor the last foiur years and she will turn Michigan
around. My parents are very conservative and will most likely vote
for Devos just because he is against abortion. Where do I stand? On the border is where I stand -- on the border of Michigan, that is. I think both candidates lack the qualities a good governor should have. No matter who wins, Michigan is screwed and I am thinking seriously about getting out. I will vote for Jennifer Granholm simply
because she is he lesser of two evils. Dick Devos scares the hell out
of me. He reminds me too much of President Bush and I can see Michigan’s
economy going to the toilet if he get his hands on our budgets. I will vote for Granholm
but after November I will be looking at schools outside the state.
I hope to find another school that suits my needs that
isn’t
in Michigan. Staying here would make me nervous. I am afraid I will
get a Michigan degree and never find a job here and getting a degree
in Michigan will make it harder for me to find a job elsewhere because
Michigan is far behind so many states. As I watched the debates,
I found that I am not the only person fearful of staying in
Michigan. Many citizens stood up and asked, “What
are you going to do to keep me here?” And neither candidate could
give a sufficient answer to the question because, honestly, they are
not going to do anything. Dick Devos only says that Michigan needs change and that leadership is the most important thing. That’s complete bullshit. I already know all that. I want to know what he is actually going to do. I want to see his plans. At least Jennifer Granholm
has an economic plan on her Web site. Dick Devos is nothing but a talker;
he obviously absorbed that from his work in big business. Granholm says
she has a plan, but how come this plan has taken four years to get started? This election is not about Republican vs. Democrat for me. It’s about the fact that neither of these candidates will get anything done. I am graduating in two years and I already know there will not be a job for me. So why not plan ahead and move out of Michigan now so I won’t have to move again in two years? |
