MSU Gravitational Physics major Sarah Joy (S.J.) Mason persuaded her father Bill to join her in getting a tattoo to memorialize her brother/his son, Staff Sgt. Lucas (Luke) Mason. Luke died at Fort Bragg two years ago.

Splash of Color tattoo artist Mike Vigilante helped create a design that includes a Celtic cross similar to one Luke had as a tattoo, as well as the phrase Penetra Le Tenebe (Italian for "Penetrate the Shadows"), the motto of Luke's 112th Signal Battalion
