Best Energy Drink: Sobe Adrenaline Rush

by Erika Fifelski and Kaylen Leishman

In our world of all nighters, mid-term crunching and the occasional need for a quick pick me up, energy drink manufacturers have come to the rescue. Popular brands like Rip It, Sobe Adrenaline Rush and Red Bull run through the veins of MSU students. But with so many options, who's to say which works the best? How will you spend your dwindling college funds? Let us be the judges.

Rip It: Initial reactions to the "Power" were somewhat overpowering. The taste of this particular energy drink is akin to a carbonated cough syrup. Needless to say, it was with difficulty that we choked down the 16 fl oz of "Energy Fuel." The efforts were sadly in vain as the boost of energy was hardly noticeable. After this experience, we say Rip It off the shelves.

Sobe Adrenaline Rush: The initial taste reaction was delicious. It's almost like carbonated orange
juice and goes down smooth. The taste lingers in your mouth. After waking from slumber, we reached for the Sobe, that seemed to be calling our names. The energy boost was significant as moods shifted from afternoon "blah's" to RUSHING back to CVS for yet another mouth watering Sobe Adrenaline.

Red Bull: Most students dread an 8 a.m. class, but we faced the lecture halls of Wells with a mission. One can of Red Bull and we began toe-tapping. By the end of our quiz, the increase in adrenaline was obvious. These results seemingly solve the search for the best energy drink, but don't be fooled! Halfway
through our next class, fidgeting feet turned to yawning and difficulty paying attention. Conclusion: it's good for a short-term rush, but be prepared to feel like you've been kicked by a bull.

As far as pricing, Rip It energy drink gives you more bang for your buck at just $.99 a can. However, the drink provided little increase in energy levels. The most expensive, Red Bull at $1.99, gave disappointing results. Like a summer romance, great at first but it fades fast.

Our grand-prize winner, Sobe Adrenaline Rush, rang up at $1.49, a happy medium in price range that far exceeded the results of the other energy drinks we tested.
