I am old enough to remember risking my life on the perilous stairs to the basement dungeon that was their first home on M.A.C.. (Remember how you tried to enjoy your meal without worrying you you would get out if there were a fire?) The restaurant was able to maintain its authenticity and charm after moving aboveground. Vegetarians will love the Botana salad. If you eat chicken, you can't do better than their Topopo. If you want real Mexican food, think El Az. |
Best of the Best: Burrito
Taste tester Sean Vidal reports:
Late hours, great food, even better Chimichangas, and the fact that they will call "Big Daddy Taxi" for you if you pass out in their dinning area, all make this the best burrito place for the alcoholics that inhabit MSU. Also having all their burritos priced in single dollar amounts makes paying for food easy for inebriated persons. We all know that calculating change does not sit well with drunk people or stoners. Having the best location on campus of the three adds to how great Big Ten is. Along with the coolest shirts in fast food history, Big Ten Burrito has to be a favorite for many burrito lovers around MSU. #2 - Chipotle - This newly established burrito-making masterpiece did not receive top marks because of its operating hours. What kind of eating institution in a college town closes at 10 at night! How are they going to make any money after the "new burrito place" logo dies and they are just another part of the community? But about the food, Chipotle is exactly like Qdoba. Both mix similar ingredients to get similar dishes - beans, rice, meat, salsa and guacamole at Chipotle are exactly the same as at Qdoba. The reason why Chipotle is favored over Qdoba is the friendly and energetic staff. You will hear the staff do their "Chipotle yells" and the speed at which orders are delivered makes Chipotle a better bet than Qdoba. #3 - Qdoba Qdoba came in at the bottom of the list because its menu is exactly like Chipotle's, it suffers from a terrible location for students on campus and the staff seem slower, less energetic. Located off of Grand River east of Bogue street makes it hard for many students Living On to get to Qdoba. Students can get burritos almost anywhere on campus nowadays and if these students find a more convenient place, that’s where their business will go. I have to admit being able to walk back from Spartan Street and getting a huge burrito from Qdoba after an awesome night is memorable. Good ingredients and great operating hours earns Qdoba third place. How do you rate a drab restaurant better than its lively twin? |
