Respect for each other's Intelligence and a shared sense of humor have helped Dan and Jean survive their long-distance relationship

The Couple: Daniel Morello and Jean Carrier

Been dating since: May 2005

How they met: At a high school graduation party, while both were intoxicated. Mostly seniors were invited but Jean decided to crash the party as a junior

Who made the first move? Dan

How they spend their couple time: Going to the movies, out to dinner and to parties

Shared interests:
Dan: We both played tennis.
Jean: Music.
Dan: Sex drive. (Joking.) And we are both smart.

Favorite memory as a couple:
Dan: The night she was subservient to me.
[As Jean hits Daniel, he takes the time to think up a real answer.]

Favorite memory take #2: The first night they spent together. Not sex but falling asleep next to each other.

Struggles they've faced as a couple:
Dan: With distance comes jealousy.
(While Dan is an MSU student who resides in Phillips Hall, Jean is still a senior at Redford Thurston High School.)
Jean: I don’t hang out with males.
Dan (who has an African-American stepfather said jokingly): My stepdad doesn’t want me to date white girls!

Favorite things about the other:
Jean: I like his confidence—not cockiness—just a sense of self that he knows who he is and doesn’t change for anyone. And his sense of humor.
Daniel: She’s very family-oriented and I think that’s very important.

Celebrity couple they are most like: At first they were thinking Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt but felt that they were more on the other side of the social, marital war as Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Anniston.
