The Michigan folk scene is alive and well thanks to artists like Jen Sygit.  Her brand of music, dubbed “folk roots,” offers a timeless sense of genuineness.  The melding of unique acoustic country with her bluesy harmonies adds color to essential folk music.  Her shows create a comfortable atmosphere where her music is intimate and engaging, while her humble personality makes for money well spent.

Sygit has been on the road about four months in support of her latest album, Leaving Marshall St, which was released in September 2006.  It is currently #31 on Roots Music Report’s “Folk” Music Chart – part of a list that includes Lucinda Williams and Bob Dylan.  Her first album, Here to There, was released in 2003.

No stranger to the area, Sygit graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s in English and has spent her time when not touring at the beloved local music shop Elderly Instruments.  She remains close to the area, hosting open-mic nights at Dagwood’s Tavern in Lansing every Tuesday evening amid her active tour schedule.

Earthwork Music is Sygit’s record company, which represents a handful of essential Michigan folk artists like Seth Bernard, Daisy May and Breathe Owl Breathe.  Sygit performs continually throughout the area – performances that are not worth missing.
