I'm just not comfortable with that

It’s hard out there for a fashionista.

Trying to look great while going to school at MSU isn’t the easiest task. We walk everywhere, so our clothes have to be weather-friendly and our shoes have to be comfortable. And we’re in college. We just want to be comfortable, so as we sit in class and take notes or dream about what we’re going to do over the weekend, we feel like we’re sitting on the couch in sweats. After pulling an all-nighter, it’s hard to put on something that requires a lot of effort as you walk across campus. Striking the balance between cute and comfy isn’t easy.

Things That Are Comfortable We Wish Were Stylish

  • Pink by Victoria’s Secret Sweatpants These sweats are perfect for lounging and the cropped length makes them great to wear while painting your toenails. They are soft and fleecy and the bright colors are great. But they are still sweatpants, after all. They don’t belong in a lecture hall. And they don’t belong with Uggs. Which brings us to #2…
  • Uggs When walking from South Complex to Brody, these boots will keep you super warm, and the sheepskin inside makes them easier on your feet than Nikes. But while they are still generally accepted at MSU, style mavens from the city have been begging us to stop wearing them for the past two years.
  • Your High School Sports Sweatshirt Familiar and warm, it’s the clothing equivalent of chicken noodle soup, but seeing that your high school swim team’s nickname for you was “Skid Marks” might make it hard for you to score with the girl who sits behind you.
  • Crocs It seems rain or snow, we’ve got some hideous options for footwear! Now they’re making them in new styles and every color of the rainbow, but guess what? They’re still wildly unattractive.
  • Basketball Shorts Whether you’re a guy wearing them seriously with a white tee and Air Force Ones or a girl wearing them home from a frat party, they look ridiculous and feel great.

Things That Are Stylish We Wish Were Comfortable

  • Wool Pants A good-fitting pair of wool pants does all the right things for you, and makes your legs itch.
  • A Shirt and Tie But strangulation never looked so good.
  • Lacy Underwear It rides and chafes, but hopefully you won’t be wearing it for very long.
  • Apple Earbuds Wearing regular headphones as you walk to class is like wearing head gear to the first day of middle school, but at least they provide a nice break from earbuds’ eardrum prodding
  • Heels Obvi.

Things That Are Both

  • Converse All-Stars
  • American Apparel Classic T-Shirts
  • Tights
  • Double Breasted Wool Jackets
  • Argyle Dress Socks
