*Drinking Game of the Week:
Landmine (aka Minefield)
Katie McRae
Number of people: 3+
For: People looking to advance beyond Quarters or anyone who has wasted hours playing Minesweeper on the computer when they should be studying
Best beverage to play with: Definitely beer
Dorm-friendliness (noise level): Wait for the RA to be in the basement doing laundry. This can get pretty rowdy pretty quickly.
Effectiveness: You can get a pretty good buzz rather quickly.
Equipment: Smooth (non-glass) table, one quarter per player, lots of beer (cans are best), masking tape
Set-up: - Each player sits around the table and marks their territory with masking tape (should be about arms length apart)
- Each player opens a game beer and a side beer, but both cans must be kept off the table.
Rules: - Side beers can be consumed at any pace, at any time, but the empty can should be saved.
- The first player spins the quarter and immediately starts drinking from his or her game beer until the quarter stops spinning or falls off of the table. If the beer is finished, player gets another turn with a fresh game beer.
- Play continues to the left.
- At any point, any player can use an empty can, either game or side, to create a “landmine” for another player. To create a landmine, any player except the current spinner slams an empty can, either game or side, onto the spinning quarter, which forces the other player to go again. Once down, the can can’t be moved and stays on the table, creating an obstacle of sorts.
Tips: - Create landmines in other players’ territories, not your own.
- Try to spin the quarter outside of your territory to avoid being landmined.
*Disclaimer: You must be 21 to drink…you all know that, right?
