Maybe it’s because I’m a history buff, but I find gladiator sandals incredibly fabulous. I like to throw on my silver ones and imagine them up over my head while Russell Crowe has his way with me in the mazes deep beneath the Coliseum while the lions and the crowd roar above us. Like those crazy, death-desiring fans, I give them a thumbs-up.
Here are some of my favorite looks: For a great weekend look, pair these with a dress—black, metallic or jewel-toned. If you take inspiration from the Olsens or from your neighborhood sadist, these are perfect. They’ll look amazing with a white dress, or black or gray skinny pants. There are several pairs of gladiators on eBay.com. Many people don’t realize how much you can buy on eBay without having to bid on it, but a lot of companies just put clothes and shoes on the site and you can shop like you would anywhere else. The stuff is ridiculously cheap, so you won’t feel bad when this trend goes the way of gauchos. In red, black, or gold, they are so outrageous. If your toes can take a bit of frostbite, here are some great shoes. The Jeffrey Campbell ones were sold out in the entire city of New York and online this summer, when I began my love affair with them. Now they are on sale, as are the red ones, which are a great alternative to flip-flops on the last warm days of October. Gladiator Boots As the temperature drops, the trend only gets hotter. This pair has been deemed “fugly” but everyone I’ve shared them with, but for many people, all Uggs are “fugly.” At least these are attempting to include a fashionable detail. I kind of like them. When it comes to wearing gladiator boots, look for laces that wrap around and tie at the back of the calves. (Your boyfriend will appreciate these.) (Your boyfriend will appreciate these…if he is a tranny.) I own these boots and get compliments from random strangers every time I wear them. (Last time I wore them, a frat guy called them “F me” boots. I tried to explain they couldn’t be “F-Me” boots without a heel to grasp onto when F-ing, but then my best friend chimed in that I’d F in anything, so they very well could be F-Me boots.) They will take you from season to season, are comfortable to wear for hours and come in a bunch of colors.
These Marc Jacobs Collection boots take the gladiator look high-end. I had $785 to spend on shoes, I’d probably use it to a plane ticket to Rome, but that’s just me. Shop: |
